Men’s Golf Finishes Fourth at Macdonald Cup

Gerbavsits finishes inside the top-15 to lead the way for St. John’s
The St. John's men's golf team wrapped up action at the Macdonald Cup on Sunday, placing fourth overall in the standings.
Senior Tyler Gerbavsits led the way for the Red Storm, shooting a three-round 217 to finish in a tie for 14th. The Huntington, N.Y., native saw his best effort come in round two of the event, as he fired off five birdies for a score of 3-under 67.
Classmate Jack Simon also turned in a top-25 finish, signing off on a 219. After shooting a 77 and 73 over the first two rounds, Simon jumped 29 spots on Sunday, with a low-round 1-under 69 over the final 18 holes.
Juniors Gage Wolfle and Ryan Rittberger each carded a 222 over 54 holes to finish inside the top half of the standings.
Freshman Thomas Stafford rounded out scoring for the Red Storm lineup, turning scores of 75-77-73-225.
Doug Beney, who competed as an individual, shot a three-round 78-81-85-244.
Will Anderson of Michigan earned medalist honors for the weekend, carding a three-round 6-under 204. Host school Yale earned the team title posting an 846 (+6).
The Johnnies will have a quick turnaround, as the squad returns to action on Monday with a trip to Villanova for the Wildcat Fall Invitational.
