Senior Udayan Bhakar lifts the Red Storm over the Eagles with three set victory
QUEENS, N.Y. - Senior Udayan Bhakar rallied back from a one-set deficit to win, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1, and clinch the St. John's men's tennis team's victory over Boston College, 4-3, on Friday night.
The Johnnies started off strong, earning the doubles point after a pair of gritty victories. No. 56 Axel Vila Antuna and Ignacio Garcia grabbed a 6-4 decision over the Eagles pair Jose Juan Bianchi and Max Motlagh. In the no. 2 slot, senior Charlie James and freshman Ryota Kaneda battled their way to a 7-5 win against Matt Campbell and Jake Vassel.
Veteran standout Garcia captured his 19th straight singles win in the no. 2 slot at USTA National Tennis Center, defeating BC's Campbell 6-4, 7-6 (7-3).
In his first collegiate match, freshman Carl Gustavsson rose to the occasion with a straight set victory in the no. 4 position over the visitor's Vassel, 6-3, 6-4.
Bhakar finished the job with his win over Oliver Worth to move the Red Storm to 2-0.
