St. John’s Grabs 4-3 Victory over Delaware

Red Storm move to 3-0 with another gutsy win at home
QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's men's tennis team battled its way to another one-match victory on Thursday afternoon against Delaware, 4-3. Four singles match wins powered the Johnnies to a win at the USTA National Tennis Center. The victory marks the third-straight season the Johnnies are off to a 3-0 start.
For the first time this spring, the Red Storm fell behind after the Blue Hens swiped the doubles point. In singles competition, St. John's stormed back, posting victories in four of six singles matches.
Junior Axel Vila Antuna pulled out a tiebreak in the second set to sweep Delaware's top man James Wilkinson, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2). Once again, Ignacio Garcia and Carl Gustavsson each delivered a point to the team total. Garcia captures his match against Luis Molina, 6-2, 6-4, and Gustavsson moves past Guilherme Valdoleiros, 6-2, 6-2. The singles triumphs were rounded out by Giuseppe De Camelis who posted a 6-2, 6-4 decision over Delaware's Pierce Gilheany.
The Red Storm are set to resume competition on Sunday when Old Dominion makes the trip to the Lifetime Fitness Center in Harrison, N.Y. The match is slated to commence at 1 p.m.
