Boyd garners second-team honors, Garziano earns third-team spot
QUEENS, N.Y.- Graduate defender Brooke Boyd and senior midfielder Jessica Garziano added another accolade to their sterling resumes with each being named to the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Team.
Boyd earned a spot on the second team while Garziano grabbed third-team honors. The announcement marks the second consecutive year that Garziano has been recognized by the organization after landing on the All-East Region Second Team in the fall of 2021.
Boyd, who was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team this season, was an integral part of the Red Storm's back four, a defense that allowed only 14 goals in the regular season and posted seven shutouts in 19 matches in 2022. The Silver Spring, Md., native tallied two scores of her own, including the crucial equalizer in a draw with Creighton on Oct. 6.
Garziano adds another award in an excellent season after being named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team for the second consecutive season on Nov. 2. The Melville, N.Y., native paced the Johnnies in several offensive categories, including points, assists and shots. The senior logged four goals in her final season in a St. John's uniform.
The Red Storm wrapped up another successful season with an overall record of 7-5-7 and a BIG EAST mark of 4-2-3. The Johnnies earned a trip to the BIG EAST Championships for the 17th time in program history and reached the semifinal round for the second consecutive season.
