St. John’s Heads to Georgetown for Saturday Night Conference Clash

The Red Storm carries a three-match shutout streak into road contest against the Hoyas
QUEENS, N.Y. – After a third consecutive draw in conference play, the St. John's women's soccer team will face Georgetown on the road Saturday night.
Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. in Washington, D.C. Fans can tune into the contest on ESPN+.
St. John's (3-5-4, 0-1-3 BIG EAST) battled Butler to a scoreless draw on Wednesday night at the Bud and Jackie Sellick Bowl, extending its unbeaten streak to three matches. The Red Storm registered 11 shots, including three on target, while holding the Bulldogs scoreless despite facing 12 attempts. Janelle Sylvestre led the Johnnies with a match-high four shots, including two on frame, while Telma Steindórsdóttir added two attempts. Kayla Bower made three saves to secure her third consecutive clean sheet, while Lauren Spence delivered a crucial goal-line clearance in the final minute to preserve the draw.
The Red Storm has continued to showcase its defensive strength, recording three consecutive scoreless draws against UConn, Creighton and Butler to extend its shutout streak to 270 minutes. St. John's has registered six clean sheets through 12 matches, holding opponents to just nine goals while ranking 44th nationally and fourth in the BIG EAST with a 0.75 goals-against average. The Johnnies also rank 48th nationally in save percentage (.827) and 52nd in shutout percentage (.500), which stands third in the conference.
Bower has been instrumental in the Red Storm's defensive success, recording 42 saves and a career-high six shutouts through 12 matches. The graduate student ranks 20th nationally and second in the BIG EAST in shutouts, while her 1,068:57 minutes in goal lead the conference and rank 57th in the nation. Her 0.76 goals-against average and .824 save percentage are both career-best marks. The Lincoln Park, N.J., native has now accumulated 163 saves and 10 solo clean sheets across 42 career appearances, logging more than 3,100 minutes in goal for the Johnnies.
Bivona has remained a constant presence on the St. John's backline, playing all 1,080 minutes through the first 12 contests. The defender is the only Johnnie to play every minute this season and has started all 12 matches after appearing in 13 contests during her freshman campaign at South Florida. Bivona has now logged 1,368 minutes across 25 collegiate appearances while helping anchor a defensive unit that has conceded just two goals through four BIG EAST matches.
Offensively, Sylvestre has emerged as one of the Red Storm's most active offensive threats during BIG EAST play, leading the squad with six shots and four attempts on target through four conference matches. The midfielder registered a season-high four attempts against Butler, including two on frame. St. John's has also generated more opportunities after halftime, recording 61 of its 105 shots in the second half, while five of its seven goals this season have come after the break.
St. John's and Georgetown will meet for the 29th time, with the Hoyas holding a 19-6-3 advantage in the all-time series. The Red Storm has posted a 3-8-2 record against Georgetown in Queens, while going 3-10-0 on the road. The Johnnies will look to snap a 12-match losing streak against the Hoyas and secure their first victory in the series since a 1-0 win at home on Oct. 16, 2014.

The Hoyas were selected to finish first in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll and return 16 players, including three starters, from last season's squad. Among the returners are Lizzie Heller and Kayla Hanson, who both earned All-BIG EAST Second Team and BIG EAST All-Tournament Team honors a year ago. The duo also garnered major preseason recognition, with Heller tabbed BIG EAST Preseason Midfielder of the Year and Hanson named BIG EAST Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
