Red Storm is fresh off a decisive win over Iona, 77-51, on Thursday
QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's women's basketball team will continue its homestand on Sunday afternoon when it plays host to Bethune-Cookman.
The non-conference tilt will tip-off at 2 p.m. from Carnesecca Arena. Ralph Bednarczyk and Kevin Connelly will have the call on FloSports.
St. John's remained undefeated after easing past Iona on Thursday night, 77-51. As of Dec. 9, the Red Storm are one of 13 unbeaten programs in NCAA Division I and the only one in the BIG EAST.
Earlier this week, the Red Storm landed on the national radar garnering votes in the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches' polls, for the first time since 2016. The squad is 9-0 for just the third-time in the history of the program.
The Johnnies led wire-to-wire against the Gaels using their size to dominate the glass, doubling their opponent, 36-18, in the rebounding category. Jillian Archer was on a roll in Queens, posting a double-double in the first half of action. The dynamic forward finished with 19 points and 11 boards.
The victory marked the fourth win by 20 points or more on the year. Coach Tartamella's squad boasts an average margin of victory of plus-16.2, which ranks second in the BIG EAST, trailing only UConn in that category.
Jayla Everett and Kadaja Bailey continue to spearhead the scoring effort for the Red Storm, as each have reached double-figures in every game they have played in. Everett is averaging 15.1 points per game, while Bailey narrow follows at 14.7, respectively.
Bethune-Cookman makes the journey to the Empire State for its first of two games. After Sunday's tilt, the Wildcats will meet the Johnnies last opponent, Iona, in New Rochelle on Tuesday. The Wildcats are still seeking their first win on the year, carrying an 0-6 record into Queens after a 10-day layoff. Most recently on Dec. 1, Bethune-Cookman fell to in-state foe North Florida, 54-43.
Indiana transfer Chanel Wilson leads the way offensively for the Wildcats, scoring 17.3 points per outing which ranks third in the SWAC. The graduate student poured in a season-high 24 points in a road contest at Florida. Sunday will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
Following Sunday's contest the Johnnies will return to conference play when it hosts Providence on FS1 on Dec. 18 at 4:30 p.m.
