St. John’s Grabs Two Wins in Doubleheader

The Johnnies swept both FDU and Wagner, 4-0, on Friday
QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's women's tennis team claimed both its matches in Friday's doubleheader. The Red Storm blanked both Fairleigh Dickinson and Wagner inside the USTA National Tennis Center
Mouna Bouzgarrou and Lalita Devarakonda fueled the winning effort with four wins apiece over the two matches. The duo was dominant in doubles play, winning each of its two contests by a score of, 6-0.
In the morning tilt with FDU, all three Johnnies singles winners, Bouzgarrou, Devarakonda and Willa Bay Breunichsurrendered just one game each in their straight set victories. In doubles, reigning BIG EAST Team of the Week Yesica de Lucas and Jayden Nielsen added another win to the tally with a win over the Knights top pair Marta Bettinelli and Amina Lasheen, 6-1.
On the back half of the doubleheader, Devarakonda impressed in her season debut on the no. 3 court, notching a 6-0, 6-1 win over Wagner's Fidan Khalilzade. Bouzgarrou and de Lucas contributed individual victories to clinch the doubleheader sweep.
The Red Storm now sit at 5-2 on the year and its next contest comes on Wednesday when it meets nearby foe Columbia.
