St. John’s Falters at Columbia, 4-2

Bouzgarrou and Devarakonda record third-straight doubles victory
HARRISON, N.Y.- The St. John's women's tennis team captured two-out-of-three doubles matches, but ultimately fell at Columbia, 4-2, on Wednesday afternoon.
After the Red Storm grabbed the initial point, the Lions roared back claiming four out of five singles matches inside the Lifetime Fitness Center in Harrison, N.Y.
Mouna Bouzgarrou and Lalita Devarakonda strung together their third doubles win in five days, defeating Columbia's top pair of Akansha Bhan and Anna Zhang, 7-6 (7-5). Willa Bay Breunich and Camila Ordonez corralled their team-high fifth doubles victory of the season. The junior duo coasted by the Lions Jennifer Kerr and Shivani Amenini.
In individual play, Yesica de Lucas delivered a convincing straight set win over Kerr on the no. 3 court, 6-0, 6-2. Columbia (7-2) defended home court in the other four singles matches to register a tally in the win column.
After the Red Storm will make a trip to the Sunshine State for two matches against Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast next week.
