St. John’s Set to Face Columbia on Wednesday

The Red Storm looks to continue its momentum after the doubleheader sweep
QUEENS, N.Y. - Fresh off a doubleheader sweep on Friday, the St John's women's tennis team will look to build on its momentum, when it faces nearby opponent Columbia in a road match on Wednesday afternoon. First serve between the two New York City schools is slated for 12 p.m. at the Lifetime Fitness Center in Harrison, N.Y.
In the Red Storm's doubleheader victory over FDU and Wagner, Mouna Bouzgarrou and Lalita Devarakonda both registered strong performances on Friday. In singles play, the duo each added two tallies to the team-total and won both their doubles matches as partners.
Yesica de Lucas and Jayden Nielsen have impressed in doubles competition this spring. In five completed matches, the pairing is 4-1 and garnered BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week recognition for their efforts.
Columbia (6-2) is coming off a third-place finish at the ECAC Championships in Ithaca, N.Y., the Lions recorded wins over Yale and Penn in an early season tournament between all eight Ivy League members.
The Johnnies are seeking its first win over the Lions in since Jan. 31, 2010. In the last meeting between the two programs in 2020, Columbia blanked St. John's, 4-0.
Following Wednesday's tilt, the Red Storm will make a trip to the Sunshine State for two matches against Stetson and FGCU next week.
