Chuck Sanzio records his first hit of the season
EUGENE, Ore.- Pitching and timely hitting lifted Oregon over the St. John's baseball team, 6-0, on Monday afternoon at PK Park.
Three Johnnies recorded a base hit against the Ducks (5-3). Chuck Sanzio notched his first hit of the season while David Glancy and Tate Ballestero tallied their 11th and ninth hits of the 2022 campaign, respectively.
Kevin Michaels reached base for the seventh straight contest with a one-out walk in the third inning. The redshirt sophomore is tied with Chris Conniff for longest active on-base streak on the team.
Oregon righthander Tommy Brandenberg earned his first win of the season, tossing five innings of one-hit ball with two strikeouts. Vincent Bianchi was tagged with the loss after allowing three runs in 3.2 innings in his first start of the season for the Red Storm (1-7).
The Ducks set the tone early with three runs in the bottom half of the second inning. A leadoff single by Josh Kasevich and a one-out walk by Colby Shade set the table for Josiah Cromwick. The sophomore catcher launched a three-run homer to left to give Oregon an early 3-0 edge.
Oregon would add on in the bottom of the fifth courtesy of the second single of the game by Josh Kasevich that plated two more runs for the home team. After five, the Ducks led, 5-0.
A Jacob Walsh solo home run in the bottom of the seventh solidified the series sweep for the Ducks over the Red Storm.
The Johnnies will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to the Bay Area to take on the University of San Francisco. First pitch from Benedetti Diamond is set for 5 p.m. ET.
