This weekend's series will mark the first time the Johnnies have faced off against an opponent from the West Coast Conference since playing three games against San Diego in March of 2019.
David Glancy was a bright spot for the Johnnies this past weekend, batting .333 (5-for-15) in four games against Oregon, with one of those hits being a three-run home run on Friday. Middle infielders Chris Conniff and Kevin Michaels have shown strong plate discipline to sit at second and third, respectively, on the team in on-base percentage, respectively. Conniff leads the team in total walks (10) and has reached base in all but one of his eight starts this season. Michaels sports the team's longest active on-base streak, reaching first base in every game he has played this season. The redshirt sophomore out of Encinitas, Calif., also ranks second in batting average (.360) and slugging percentage (.440).
Freshman outfielder Jackson Tucker enjoyed a breakout series against Oregon, hitting .400 (6-for-15) with two RBIs and four runs scored. The Staten Island native has started every game for the Red Storm and has batted a solid .313 in the leadoff spot.
On the mound, Chuck Sanzio will make the first start of his career in Thursday's series opener. The sophomore two-way player also recorded his first career start as a hitter on Monday against Oregon. Ian Murphy will start his third game of the season on Friday. Murphy suffered his first loss of the campaign on Friday after surrendering five runs in 4.0 innings of work. Southpaw Ben Adams and righty Vincent Bianchi will take the mound on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Bianchi made the first start on the mound of his career on Monday, striking out six Oregon batters in 3.2 innings.
Out of the bullpen, Tim Cunningham continued his strong start to the 2022 campaign, allowing only two runs in 2.2 innings to bring his ERA to 3.86.
San Francisco enters the four-game series with a 5-4 record. The Dons took three out of four from Utah Valley last weekend before falling to San Jose State, 6-5, on Tuesday.
As a team, San Francisco bats .211 while its pitchers own a cumulative ERA of 4.22. Three Dons pitchers sport an ERA of 0.00, including graduate closer Riley Ornido.
