St. John’s Faces Road Test at Rutgers

Johnnies gear up for Sunday showdown with Big Ten foe
QUEENS, N.Y. - After an eight-day layoff, the St. John's women's team is ready to hit the court at Rutgers on Sunday afternoon. The match is slated to begin at 3 p.m. from the East Brunswick Racquet Club, live results and a video stream will be provided on Rutgers' website.
The Johnnies hold a record of 2-0 after a pair of dominant wins to open its campaign. St. John's overwhelmed Dartmouth, 6-1, on Jan. 22 and blanked Siena, 4-0, in the home opener on Jan. 28.
Jayden Nielsen has been dominant so far for the Red Storm. The Sacramento State transfer has won 21-of-24 games she's played in, resulting in two convincing straight set victories.
Emilie Haakansson and Mouna Bouzgarrou are off to an efficient 2-0 start in doubles play. The duo orchestrated a dominant 6-1 win over Siena's pair of Emma Bogialli and Nanea Perkins on Jan. 28.
Rutgers enters the outing with a 2-1 record on the year. Most recently, the Scarlet Knights handedly defeated Drexel, 6-1, on Friday afternoon at home.
Following Sunday's contest, St. John's will return home to face St. Francis Brooklyn on Wednesday at noon inside the USTA National Tennis Center. After that, another road trip to a Big Ten school is on the docket as the Johnnies venture to Maryland on Feb. 12 to meet the Terrapins.
