St. John’s Drops Contest at Rutgers, 5-2

The Red Storm fall to 2-1 following the road loss
EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J.- The St. John's women's tennis dropped a 5-2 decision at Rutgers at the East Brunswick Racquet Club on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Storm claimed an early lead in the match in East Brunswick, N.J., capturing the doubles point. Emilie Haakansson and Mouna Bouzgarrou continued their stellar play together, earning a 6-4 win over Alissa Prinyarux and Daira Cardenas. The duo moves to 3-0 on the season. Camila Ordonez and Willa Bay Breunich outlasted the Scarlet Knights' Chlore Brown and Kristiana Zahare, 7-6 (7-3), to secure the point.
In singles competition, the Scarlet Knights took five of six matches to win move to 4-1 on the year. The lone Red Storm victory came from stellar redshirt junior Jayden Nielsen. The Vancouver, Canada, native moved to 3-0 on the spring campaign with a 7-5, 7-5, win over Rutgers' Sydney Kaplan on the no. 3 court.
Up next, St. John's will return home to face St. Francis Brooklyn on Wednesday at noon inside the USTA National Tennis Center. Following the stop at home, the Johnnies will venture to College Park, Md. to face another Big Ten opponent in Maryland on Feb. 12.
