The Red Storm returns to action tomorrow with twin-bill at FIU
BOCA RATON, Fla. (March 1, 2021) – The St. John's softball team fell in two contests at Florida Atlantic on Tuesday afternoon.
Game One
Powered by six runs in the bottom of the second, the Owls took the first game of the doubleheader, 10-0.
Both London Jarrard and Anese Thompson singled for the Red Storm in the top of the first inning, but neither made it home, as FAU erased the early threat.
FAU pushed across two unearned runs in the home half of the first before breaking the game open in the second inning. The Owls were able to convert seven hits into six runs, highlighted by a Riley Olson three-run homer. FAU added two more in the bottom of the third to push its advantage to 10 before closing out the contest in five innings.
Game Two
The Owls scored two runs apiece in first and second innings on their way to a 4-0 win over St. John's in the final game of a Tuesday doubleheader.
Anna Freveletti and Natalie Casto each recorded their first career double while Meisha Murray singled.
A leadoff walk and a sac bunt in the bottom of the first quickly put an FAU runner in scoring position before back-to-back run-scoring doubles in the next two at-bats gave the Owls a 2-0 lead.
FAU pieced together two more runs in the bottom of the second, using a single, a fielding error, two walks and a sac fly to push its lead to four.
Erin Brown entered the circle for the bottom of the fifth and struck out four Owls in 2.0 innings of one-run work, but the Johnnies managed just one hit over the next two frames, as FAU sealed the doubleheader sweep.
St. John's will play a doubleheader tomorrow at Florida International starting at 10:30 a.m.
