QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's fencing team will send 19 student-athletes to compete at the NCAA Northeast Regionals on Sunday.
The Red Storm will compete against 17 schools from around the region at Vassar's Walker Field House in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The competition will get underway at 10 a.m., with women's epee. Live results and the full event schedule are available via this link.
Two St. John's fencers enter Sunday as a top seed in their respective weapon categories. Standout freshman Julia Cieslar earned a no. 1 spot in women's saber and Ivan Zagoruiko in men's epee. Two-time Olympian, Fares Ferjani was tabbed as the no. 2 seed in men's saber.
In its last time out at the Shark Showcase on Feb. 6, hosted by LIU, the Red Storm enjoyed its best performance of the year on the piste. Ferjani and foil specialist Cesar Colon led the Johnnies with seven wins apiece. On the women's side, Cieslar earned eight wins, while veterans Nicole Gavrilko and Andrea Rizzi posted seven each.
