Red Storm will travel to Philadelphia for first meet of the spring
QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's track and field team will get its outdoor season underway at the Penn Challenge in Philadelphia on Saturday. Throwing events are scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
This will mark the first time the Red Storm will compete in the home meet of UPenn since 2019 when it took home a sixth-place finish.
In the sprint events, Brianna Burkley, Malia Jones, Dolcé McPherson and Mandana Vouillemin will look to get their respective outdoor seasons off to strong starts. All four sprinters will compete in the 200-meter dash while Jones, McPherson and Burkley will race in the 400-meter dash.
Coming off an impressive performance at the ECAC Indoor Championships on March 6, Claire Cushing will open her 2022 outdoor campaign by running in the 800-meter run. This will be the first time the junior out of Ontario will run the 800m as an individual this season. Jenna D'Onofrio and Tiffany-Ann Matturro are set to join Cushing on the blocks for the 800-meter race.
In the field events, Samantha Morillo is poised to build on her bronze medal effort at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships in the shot put. Morillo will also compete in the discus throw. Olivia Pantale has made a habit of winning in the javelin throw, winning four of the last five competitions she has participated in.
