St. John’s Set To Host Stony Brook In Midweek Contest

First pitch between Red Storm and Seawolves scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday
QUEENS, N.Y. (March 28, 2022) –The St. John's softball team is set to host Stony Brook in a midweek contest at Red Storm Field.
The Red Storm and Seawolves will play the first of two midweek games this season on Tuesday with the first pitch slated for 3:30 p.m. The contest will be streamed on ESPN3 and live stats will be available on RedStormSports.com.
St. John's went 0-3 in its weekend series at reigning BIG EAST Champion Villanova. Amy Mallah extended her hitting streak to five games, and notched a two RBI single on Friday, another RBI single on Saturday and her first collegiate homer on Sunday. In Friday's contest, Angela Saric pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief while Carolina Zamudio recorded 3.2 innings of work and fanned four batters.
After making just eight appearances and five starts in 2021, Mallah is stepping up to the plate and has become a consistent starter for the Red Storm. The East Meadow, N.Y. native has started in 26 of the Johnnies' 28 games this season and boasts a .197 batting average. Mallah ranks third on the team with 13 hits and is the only Red Storm student-athlete to produce a triple this season.
Hannah Mearns and Zamudio lead the Red Storm's pitching staff, tallying 57.0 and 62.2 innings, respectively. Zamudio has recorded 51 strikeouts while Erin Brown boasts a team-low 2.96 ERA across 26.0 innings of work.
London Jarrard is the Red Storm's hits leader recording 24 hits in 69 at-bats for a .348 batting average. Meisha Murray follows Jarrard with 18 hits and has scored a team-high nine runs. The senior has also recorded 10 stolen bases on 13 attempts.
As of March 22, St. John's is ranked third in the league in stolen bags with 23, trailing Connecticut (54) and Butler (26).
The Seawolves are 14-8 on the season so far with their most recent wins coming at Fairfield and Hofstra. Stony Brook returns NFCA All-Region Second Team member Dawn Bodrug. Bodrug leads the team's pitching staff with a 1.81 ERA and has recorded 121 strikeouts on the season. Offensively, the Seawolves are led by Corrine Badger with a .369 batting average. Badger went 4-for-5 in Stony Brook's most recent outing including a home run and two doubles.
St. John's leads the overall series with Stony Brook, 7-5, with the series at Red Storm Field notched at two wins a piece. The Seawolves are on a three-game winning streak against the Red Storm dating back to 2019. Prior to that, the Johnnies had won five straight meetings.
