St. John’s Travels To DePaul for BIG EAST Series

QUEENS, N.Y. (April 14, 2022) – The St. John's softball team will travel to Chicago for a BIG EAST series with DePaul.
Due to the Easter holiday on Sunday, the Red Storm and Blue Demons will forgo the traditional three-day series and will instead play a doubleheader on Friday, starting at 1 p.m. before wrapping the series with a single game on Saturday at 1 p.m. Both contests on Friday will be streamed on FloSports while Saturday's matinee can be viewed on the CBS Sports Network. Live stats will be available for each game on StatBroadcast.com.
St. John's has won four of its last six contests including Wednesday's 4-1 victory over LIU. Camryn Steele went 2-for-4 in the win with 2 RBIs while London Jarrard extended her hitting streak to four games as the freshman came away with one hit, one RBI and a run scored. The Carlsbad, Calif. native leads the Johnnies and ranks second in the league with a .393 batting average.
Amy Mallah added in an RBI single along with a run scored.
Angela Saric recorded her first win of the season after pitching 2.1 innings. The senior allowed two hits and one run while fanning two batters. Carolina Zamudio was tabbed with the save with 1.2 innings of work as she faced the minimum and tallied four punchouts.
The Johnnies went 1-2 last weekend against Butler, picking up an 8-3 win in the series finale on Sunday. In the victory, Mallah went 3-for-4 at the plate with a triple and four RBIs while Anese Thompson recorded her second home run this season coming away with a three-run blast.
Meisha Murray notched her seventh multi-hit game of the season as the Santa Clarita, Calif. native produced three hits and scored two runs.
Murray has stolen 15 bases on the year, good enough for fourth in the league. As a team, the Johnnies sit third in the league with 37 stolen bags.
The Blue Demons are 17-19 this season and 6-6 in league play. DePaul took the BIG EAST series against both Villanova and Seton Hall but dropped series to Butler and Connecticut earlier this year. DePaul returns two-time BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year Maranda Gutierrez. The graduate student leads the team with 64 assists while also recording 58 putouts for the year. Brooke Johnson leads the Blue Demons with a .370 batting average, 30 RBIs and eight homers while Iowa transfer Sarah Lehman boasts a team-low 3.47 ERA and 80 strikeouts across 90.2 innings of work.
