St. John’s Heads To Nation’s Capital For BIG EAST Series

First pitch from Guy Mason Field is schedule for Friday at 3 p.m.
QUEENS, N.Y. (April 28, 2022) – The St. John's softball team will travel to Washington, D.C., for a BIG EAST series at Georgetown.
The Johnnies will take on the Hoyas on Friday at 3 p.m. followed by a Saturday contest at 1 p.m. and a Sunday game at 12 p.m. The games will be streamed for a fee on GUHoyas.com while live stats will be available on StatBroadcast.com.
This will be the first game for the Red Storm in 10 days as the Johnnies are coming off a BIG EAST bye weekend and saw their game at Fordham canceled due to weather.
St. John's fell to Iona, 5-3, in a midweek contest at Red Storm Field on April 20. London Jarrard went 1-for-3 at the plate as the freshman nailed a two-run homer. The blast marked Jarrard's first collegiate home run. The Carlsbad, Calif., native leads the Johnnies and is fourth in the BIG EAST with a .386 batting average.
Amy Mallah went 2-for-3 as the East Meadow, N.Y., native tallied her second homer of the year.
Meisha Murray and Anese Thompson both extended their hitting streaks to three games adding in a single apiece, while Natalie Alheidt scored one run. Carolina Zamudio pitched her eighth complete game of the year. The freshman allowed four hits and two earned runs while tallying seven punchouts.
The Hoyas are 13-25 this season and 3-13 in BIG EAST play. Georgetown picked up one win apiece against Creighton, Connecticut and Seton Hall. Georgetown is led by Texas A&M transfer Abby Smith with a .348 batting average. Her 10 homers put her in a tie for second in the conference. The Hoyas' pitching staff is led by Kayla Dunn with a 5.37 ERA across 99.0 innings. The freshman ranks seventh in the BIG EAST with 111 strikeouts.
St. John's and Georgetown have met 26 times with the Johnnies dominating the series, 18-8. The Red Storm holds a narrow 7-6 edge in games played at Guy Mason Field.
In 2019, the Johnnies claimed two run-rule victories against Georgetown, sweeping a doubleheader by a combined score of 22-6.
