St. John’s Set Back at No. 59 Cornell

Charlie James and Ryota Kaneda grab a doubles win
ITHACA, N.Y.- The St. John's men's tennis team fell at no. 59 Cornell, 7-0, on Sunday afternoon.
The Big Red defended its home court, winning eight of the nine matches inside Reis Tennis Center.
Ryota Kaneda and Charlie James picked up the lone for the Johnnies in doubles play. The duo moved past Cornell's Adit Sinha and Nathan Mao, 6-3.
The Big Red claimed the other two doubles matches to carry the one-point advantage into singles competition.
In individual play, two Johnnies battle their way to three set decisions, respectively. On the no. 5 court Vlad Vasilache record a 6-4 win in the opening set. In the second set, Cornell's Adit Sinha notched a 6-4 win to force a winner take all third set. Sinha outlasted Vasilache, 10-5, in the final set to record the point.
On the no. 6 court Giuseppe De Camelis went the distance against Nathan Mao, but ultimately fell. After registering a 6-2 win in the initial set. Mao rallied back to take following two sets, 6-4, 10-6 to add to Cornell's win column.
The Red Storm will return home for its third match in four days on Tuesday. The Johnnies will welcome Sacred Heart for a 3:30 p.m. contest at the St. John's Tennis Courts.
