WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 30, 2022) – The St. John's softball team fell to Georgetown, 6-3, on Saturday afternoon at the Nationals Youth Academy.
London Jarrard went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs to extend her hitting streak to four games while Meisha Murray went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored in her ninth multi-hit game of the season.
Angela Saric fell to 1-1 as the senior allowed nine hits and four runs while tallying three punchouts.
Georgetown (14-26, 4-14 BIG EAST) pitcher Julia Parker moved to 5-14 on the season as the sophomore pitched her second complete game in as many opportunities. The South Plainfield, N.J., native gave up 10 hits and three runs while fanning seven batters.
St. John's (11-32, 5-15 BIG EAST) struck early as Murray recorded a lead-off double to start the game. Two walks loaded the bases before Melanie Santos reached on a fielder's choice that scored Murray to give the Red Storm an early 1-0 edge.
Georgetown responded quickly as Cameron Kondon homered to center field before Red Storm starting pitcher Carolina Zamudio retired the next three batters to close the first inning.
The Hoyas struck again in the bottom of the second with an Alyssa Chavez home run to take the lead, 2-1. The Red Storm went to its bullpen following the dinger, bringing in Saric to minimize the damage. The Oakland, N.J., native struck out the first batter she faced, helping the Johnnies remain behind by just a run.
The bats came alive for the Red Storm in the following frame as a leadoff single and stolen base from Murray began the top of the third. Jarrard sent her first collegiate triple to left center field to score the senior from second, tying the game at two apiece.
In the top of the fourth, Natalie Alheidt reached second on an error by the Hoya's left fielder before a Murray single put runners on the corners. Jarrard singled to center field to score the junior, giving the Johnnies a 3-2 edge.
The Hoyas rallied in the home half of the frame as they loaded the bases with two away. Savannah Jones singled to tie the game once more before Mae Forshey launched a ball to centerfield to score a pair and give Georgetown a 5-3 edge.
Georgetown added another tally in the bottom of the sixth with a Jones homer to left field, providing the 6-3 advantage for the Hoyas.
Down to their final three outs, the Johnnies began the seventh with a leadoff walk to Kaitlyn Lologo. However, Parker retired the next three batters, ending the Red Storm's hopes at a comeback.
