St. John’s Drops Final Game With Georgetown, 2-1

Melanie Santos records first collegiate home run
WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 1, 2022) – The St. John's softball team dropped the final game in its series with Georgetown, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Nationals Youth Academy.
Melanie Santos went 2-for-2 at the plate, as the sophomore posted her first collegiate home run in the fifth inning.
Hannah Mearns fell to 4-16 on the season as the sophomore allowed three hits and two runs while tallying five punchouts in her 10th complete game of the year. The Binghamton transfer pitched 5.0 innings of hitless work for the Red Storm (11-33, 5-16 BIG EAST) as she retired 17 straight batters to close the game.
Georgetown pitcher Julia Parker moved to 6-14 on the season. The sophomore threw her third complete game in as many opportunities. The South Plainfield, N.J., native gave up four hits and one run while recording five strikeouts.
The Hoyas (15-26, 5-14 BIG EAST) struck early as the leadoff hitter Cameron Kondo homered to left field before Mae Forshey sent a dinger over the right center field fence to put Georgetown up, 2-0, in the first inning.
After three scoreless innings on both sides, Santos shot a blast over the left field fence to get the Johnnies on the board, 2-1.
St. John's will return to action on Wednesday, when it takes on Iona at 3 p.m.
