David Glancy recorded three hits against the Huskies
STORRS, Conn.- The St. John's baseball team dropped Saturday's tilt against No. 25 Connecticut, 13-0, at Elliot Ballpark.
David Glancy recorded three hits, his 10th multi-hit game of the season, and went 3-for-4. Jayson Kramer also tallied a base knock and a walk in a 1-for-2 effort at the plate.
UConn's Pat Gallagher tossed a four-hit shutout, racking up seven strikeouts while facing only 31 batters to pick up his fifth win of the season. Brandon Backman suffered his first loss of the season in his fifth start of the season for St. John's (11-20).
For the second straight game, Connecticut's Erik Stock opened the scoring in the bottom of the first. The preseason All-BIG EAST selection hit an inside-the-park home run to stake the Huskies to an early 1-0 advantage.
UConn (22-7) added three more in the home half of the second courtesy of a sacrifice fly by T.C. Simmons and a two-run single from Stock. After two innings, the Huskies led 4-0.
Connecticut added one in the fourth and another in the fifth to expand the advantage to 6-0.
The Huskies pulled away in the bottom of the sixth with four more runs to lead 10-0. Stock led off the frame with a single to right before Casey Dana stroked an RBI double to right. Two batters, Matt Donlan roped a two-base hit into the gap in left-center to plate Dana. Korey Morton followed up with a run-scoring single before David Smith tallied the second sac fly of the game for the home team.
UConn tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the seventh to give Gallagher plenty of room to close out the game and give the Huskies their second conference win and first series win in BIG EAST play of the campaign.
The Red Storm and Huskies will wrap up the three-game series tomorrow afternoon. First pitch from Elliot Ballpark is set for 1 p.m.
