QUEENS, N.Y. (April 9, 2022) – The St. John's softball team dropped an 3-2 contest to Butler on Saturday afternoon at Red Storm Field.
London Jarrard went 1-for-2 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Kaitlyn Lologo recorded her first hit this season as the senior came away with an RBI double.
Hannah Mearns fell to 3-13 with the loss after pitching her eighth complete game this season. The sophomore allowed three runs on eight hits and fanned three batters.

Mearns started the afternoon tilt by taking down Butler's (21-13, 9-4 BIG EAST) batters in order. The Red Storm (8-27, 3-11 BIG EAST) offense came out hot as Meisha Murray started the home half of the frame with a walk and a stolen base. Jarrard smacked a one-out RBI single to center field to plate Murray and put the Johnnies on the board for their first lead of the series.
Anese Thompson continued the rally with a walk to put runners on first and second, and Lologo came through with an RBI double to score Jarrard and give St. John's a 2-0 edge.
Mearns struck out the first batter of the second inning before three-straight hits cut the St. John's lead in half. With two on and one away, the Santa Monica, Calif., native retired the next two Bulldog batters, keeping the Johnnies ahead by one.
After a scoreless third inning on both sides, Monique Hoosen sent a 2-run blast to centerfield giving Butler the 3-2 lead. Butler stranded a runner to end the inning, but the damage had been done with the Red Storm down by a run.
Ricketts came out of the bullpen to start the bottom of the fourth. The Indianapolis native took down all 12 batters faced to hold St. John's at two runs and secure the 3-2 triumph for the Bulldogs.
