St. John’s Set To Host Butler

First pitch is scheduled for Friday at 1 p.m. from Red Storm Field
QUEENS, N.Y. (April 7, 2022) – The St. John's softball team will host Butler this weekend at Red Storm Field.
The Red Storm and Bulldogs will meet on Friday at 1 p.m., Saturday at 12 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m. All three contests will be streamed on ESPN3 and live stats will be available on RedStormSports.com.
St. John's split its home and home series with Stony Brook falling 8-0 in six innings at University Field after picking up a 1-0 win at Red Storm Field last week. NFCA Second-Team All-Region Pick Dawn Bodrug tossed a 15-strikeout no-hitter for the Seawolves, her second no-no in her last three starts.
The Red Storm clinched its first BIG EAST series of the season after taking two of three against Creighton over the weekend. St. John's dropped a 7-1 decision on Friday before sweeping a Saturday doubleheader. The Johnnies walked off in a 9-8 victory before taking the finale, 3-1. In Friday's contest, Natalie Alheidt recorded her first collegiate homer to put St. John's on the board.
In the first half of Saturday's twin bill, London Jarrard went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, driving in three runs during her sixth multi-hit game of the season. In the second game, Jarrard went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and her ninth double of the season while Anese Thompson and Natalie Casto each recorded a hit and an RBI. Carolina Zamudio pitched 9.0 innings across Saturday's games, allowing just two earned runs and recording 11 strikeouts.
Jarrard was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after she hit .538 (7-for-13) with four RBIs, four runs scored and a pair of doubles last week. The honor was the second of the season for the freshman.
As a team, the Johnnies are third in the conference with 1.06 stolen bases per game. Meisha Murray leads the Red Storm squad with 14 steals this season, and the senior ranks third in the league in the category.
The Bulldogs are 19-13 this season and have lost four of their last five contests. Butler posts a 7-4 record in BIG EAST play, taking the series over Seton Hall, DePaul and Reigning BIG EAST Champion Villanova. The Bulldogs return All-BIG EAST Team members Lauren Fey and Karli Ricketts. Fey leads the BIG EAST offensively with a .383 batting average while Ricketts boasts a squad-best 2.31 ERA and 93 strikeouts across 84.2 innings. As a team, Butler leads the conference with a 3.09 team ERA. The Bulldogs are also second in the league, averaging 1.16 stolen bases per game.
