St. John’s Women’s Soccer Concludes Preseason Play

Red Storm goes 1-0-1 in exhibition matches with Fordham and UMass
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's soccer team completed preseason action with a 2-1 victory over Massachusetts at Rudd Field on Saturday.
A pair of Johnnies found the back of the net in St. John's triumph over the Minutewomen. Isabelle Aviza went to Preseason All-BIG EAST honoree Jessica Garziano for the Red and White's first goal of the day. Aviza scored a goal herself as Nicole Gordon provided the helper on the game-winning goal
The Red Storm opened preseason play by battling Fordham to a 0-0 draw at Belson Stadium on Aug. 9. St. John's controlled the offense the entire match, boasting a 5-3 advantage on shots, including a 3-1 edge in attempts on goal
After inclement weather delayed the match, the Johnnies rattled off three shots in the opening period followed by two in the second half. Melina Couzis and Gordon led the way with two shots each. The trio of Molly Feighan, Couzis and Gordon each posted a shot on goal during the match.
St. John's women's soccer will begin its 2022 season on Aug. 18 when the squad welcomes Saint Joseph's to Belson Stadium for a 7 p.m. match up.
