Red Storm to race at Van Cortlandt Park for the first time this season
QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's cross country team will return to the familiar confines of Van Cortlandt Park to compete in the Brother John "Paddy" Doyle Meet of Champions on Friday morning. The 5k race is set for a 10:45 a.m. start.
The Red Storm returns to the course for the first time since placing fourth at the Stony Brook Invite on Sept. 3. Claire Cushing paced the Johnnies in the 4k race with a time of 14:51.10 and a 10th place finish in a strong start to her senior season. Ezgi Yasar and Ana Markovina both made impressive collegiate debuts as the freshmen posted times of 14:59.00 and 15:07.20, respectively. Yasar grabbed 13th place while Markovina finished in 18th.
Hannah Huleatt and Jenna D'Onofrio bolstered the Johnnies' fourth-place effort at Stony Brook, logging marks of 15:42.40 and 16:30.70, respectively. Huleatt finished 30th while D'Onofrio finished 40th. Gabriella Caronia closely followed D'Onofrio with a time of 16:35.20.
Friday will mark the first time St. John's has participated in the home meet of Iona College since 2019. As a freshman, Cushing finished second on the team with a time of 19:40.8 as the Red storm finished 11th.
