St. John’s Secures Fifth Place at Paddy Doyle Meet of Champions

Ezgi Yasar paced the Red Storm at Van Cortlandt Park
BRONX, N.Y.- The St. John's cross country team finished fifth in its second race of the season at Brother John "Paddy" Doyle Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park on Friday morning.
The fifth-place finish marks the best result in the program's history at the home meet of Iona College.
For the first time in her St. John's career, Ezgi Yasar paced the Johnnies on the course, posting a time of 19:19.00 in her collegiate 5k debut, good for 11th place. Claire Cushing finished close behind the freshman, logging a mark of 19:30.70 to grab 16th place.
Ana Markovina and Hannah Huleatt packed together to finish 35th and 37th overall, respectively. Markovina finished with a time of 20:15.60 while Huleatt crossed the line at 20:19.60.
Jenna D'Onofrio and Gabriella Caronia rounded out the scoring for the Johnnies on Friday. D'Onofrio posted a time of 21:29.50, and Caronia followed close behind with a mark of 21:41.90. Tiffany-Ann Matturro finished at 22:28.40.
The Red Storm will return to action next Friday when it travels to Boston to take part in the Battle at Beantown, hosted by Boston College. The race time will be announced at a later date.
