St. John’s Competes at Battle in Beantown

Three Johnnies posted sub-20-minute marks at Franklin Park
BOSTON (Sept. 23, 2022)- The St. John's cross country team wrapped up competition at the Battle in Beantown, hosted by Boston College, at Franklin Park on Friday. The Red Storm accumulated 489 points and finished 18th as a team against some of the top teams in the nation.
St. John's logged an average 5k time of 19:41 across eight runners and finished ahead of Maine by 75 points.
Claire Cushing led the way for the Johnnies in Boston, posting a 5k personal best of 18:40 to finish 57th. Ezgi Yasar continued her impressive freshman campaign with a mark of 18:41, securing 59th place overall.
Fellow freshman Ana Markovina tallied her third consecutive top-three finish among the squad with a new personal best of 19:46. Hannah Huleatt and Gabriella Caronia rounded out the scoring for the Johnnies, crossing the line at 20:28 and 20:47, respectively.
Jenna D'Onofrio and Tiffany-Ann Matturro both logged a mile pace of seven minutes or better on Friday afternoon. D'Onofrio finished with a time of 21:47, and Matturro posted a mark of 21:44. Chloe Jacinto logged a time of 26:23.
The Red Storm will return to the course in two weeks when it returns to Van Cortlandt Park to compete in the Metropolitan Championships on Friday, Oct. 7.
