St. John’s Finishes Fourth at Stony Brook Invite

Three Johnnies finish in the top 20 overall
STONY BROOK, N.Y.- The St. John's cross country team got its season off to a solid start at the Stony Brook Invite on Saturday morning, finishing fourth ahead of Fordham and LIU and logging three individual finishes within the top 20.
As she did so often a season ago, Claire Cushing led the way for the Red Storm on the course, posting a time of 14:51.10 and 10th place result in her first career 4k race. Two freshmen, Ezgi Yasar and Ana Markovina, got their Johnnies careers off to an impressive beginning, grabbing 13th and 18th place, respectively. Yasar finished at 14:59.00 while Markovina crossed the finish line with15:07.20 on the timer.
Hannah Huleatt finished fourth on the team with a time of 15:42.40 good for 30th overall. Jenna D'Onofrio grabbed 40th place with a time of 16:30.70, Gabriella Caronia started her sophomore campaign with a mark of 16:35.20, finishing just behind D'Onofrio in 41st.
Tiffany-Ann Matturro and Chloe Jacinto rounded out to Red Storm runners. Matturro finished with a time of 17:15.20 while Jacinto crossed the line at 18:15.00 in her debut effort as a Johnnie.
The Red Storm will return to action on Friday, September 16 when it takes the short trip to Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx to compete in the Brother John "Paddy" Doyle Meet of Champions.
