St. John’s Readies for Villanova Invite

Red Storm heads to Ocean Breeze for third straight meet
QUEENS, N.Y. (Jan. 20, 2022)- The St. John's track and field team will compete for the second time this week when it travels to Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island for the third straight event to take part in the Villanova Invite.
The Red Storm has posted eight or more wins as a team in each of the first two meets of the indoor slate.
Reigning BIG EAST Women's Field Athlete of the Week Samantha Morillo-Martinez is poised to build on her strong start to the season, most recently winning the shot put on Monday with a heave of 13.55 meters, the second-best mark in the conference this season.
The sprints squad will look to continue its run of success after a dominant performance at the MLK Tribute Meet on Monday. Tatyana McKenzie picked up another win on the season, posting a time of 7.64 in the 60-meter dash. Brooklyn Chestnut secured a victory in the 200-meter dash with a mark of 25.36. In the hurdles, Zamira Ysaac grabbed the top spot in the 60-meters with an excellent time of 9.56.
Claire Cushing earned her second win of the indoor campaign on Monday by registering a new personal best time in the mile at 5:04.47. The senior out of Brookville, Ontario, has won an event in each of the first two meets of 2022-23. Leilani Robinson posted her first victory of her collegiate career, winning the 800-meter run with a mark of 2:23.40.
Berit Friedenbach will look to build on her record-breaking performance in the pole vault. The sophomore cleared the 3.45-meter bar at the MLK Tribute Meet to take first in the event and set the new indoor program mark.
