Three Johnnies picked up a win on Saturday
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.- The St. John's track and field team wrapped up its three-meet swing at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Saturday when it competed in the Villanova Invite.
Three members of the Red Storm picked up a win with several others garnering top-five individual finishes.
Brooklyn Chestnut continued her strong indoor season by grabbing a victory in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.52, a new personal best. Freshman Nora Haugen made her presence felt once again, securing a win in the 400-meter dash with a mark of 56.05. The newest Johnnie, Nia Holden, picked up a first-place finish in just her second race in the red and white, logging a time of 2:11.90 in the 800-meter run to lead the pack.
Elsewhere on the track, Claire Cushing nabbed second in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:58.27, and Tatyana McKenzie finished second in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line at 24.64. Reigning BIG EAST Women's Field Athlete of the Week Samantha Morillo-Martinez logged her second straight top-five result in the shot put with a toss 13.23 meters, and Jamora Alves grabbed third with a heave of 13.52 meters. Cassandra Lemus-Sodji registered a third-place finish in the long jump with an impressive leap of 5.54 meters.
Next up, the Johnnies will compete outside of Staten Island for the first time this indoor season when they travel to The Armory in Manhattan to take part in the Dr. Sander Invitational Columbia Challenge on Friday.
