St. John’s Readies for the BIG EAST Cross Country Championships

The Red Storm is coming off a first-place finish at the Metropolitan Championships
QUEENS, N.Y. – After three weeks of rest, the St. John's cross country team will head to Kenosha, Wis. for the BIG EAST Cross Country Championships, which are being hosted by Marquette on Saturday. The 6K race will begin at 11:50 a.m. at the Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course.
The women's cross country championship race will be broadcast on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports.
Last season, the Johnnies finished 11th as a team at the conference championship, as Claire Cushing recorded a top-50 finish.
On Oct. 7, the Red Storm earned a program-best first-place finish at the Metropolitan Cross Country Championships, which dates back to 1985. All eight runners for St. John's notched top-50 finishes, seven of which recorded personal-best 5K times.
Cushing paced the squad with a personal-best time of 17:44.93, en route to a third-place finish.
Nia Holden and Gabriella Caronia each logged career-best times of 18:29.05 and 18:35.48, finishing 11th and 15th, respectively.
Ezgi Yasar is set to participate in her second BIG EAST Cross Country Championship, after posting a 19th-place finish in the Red Storm's last meet.
After posting personal-best finishes their last time on the course, Jenna D'Onofrio and Hannah Huleatt will participate in the meet on Saturday for the third and fourth time in their careers.
Freshmen Cristina Stanescu and Ana Dobsa are set to make their conference championship debuts on Saturday. Stanescu improved her 5K time by two minutes with a 20:41.0 finish at the Metropolitan Championships, while Dobsa recorded a time of 19:57.8 in her first collegiate race.
