St. John’s Concludes the Regular Season at BIG EAST Cross Country Championships

Claire Cushing notched a top-40 finish
KENOSHA, Wis. – The St. John's cross country team concluded its 2023 regular season slate at the BIG EAST Cross Country Championships presented by JEEP at the Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wis. on Saturday afternoon.
As a team, the Red Storm placed ninth with 275 points, beating out Marquette and Seton Hall. The Johnnies improved on their 11th-place finish in 2022 by two spots.
"We battled well in the later stages of the race. We displayed the same grit we have throughout the year in a very competitive conference meet," said Head Coach Elliott Blount. "Some of us will shift gears to track, while others will prepare for the NCAA Cross Country Regionals."
In her final collegiate cross country meet, Claire Cushing paced her squad with a personal-best 6K time of 21:57.68 which was good for 36th place overall.
Ezgi Yasar and Gabriella Caronia finished in the same pack with career-best times of 23:00.76 and 23:19.16. Yasar finished 59th while Caronia placed 63rd.
Nia Holden, Hannah Huleatt and Ana Dobsa finished fourth, fifth and sixth for the Red Storm. Holden crossed the finish line in 24:07.9, while Huleatt notched a time of 24:11.42. In the first championship meet of her collegiate career, Dobsa registered a time of 24:26.32 to go along with an 87th-place finish.
Jenna D'Onofrio and Cristina Stanescu rounded out the Johnnies' effort, placing 95th and 97th respectively. D'Onofrio put up a collegiate-best 6K time of 25:39.4 in the championship meet, while Stanescu notched a time of 25:40.61, in the first championship race of her career.
St. John's will be back in action in two weeks at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y. for the NCAA East Regional on Friday, Nov. 10.
