Men’s golf alumnus qualifies to compete on sport’s biggest stage
QUEENS, N.Y. (Oct. 8, 2023)- St. John's men's golf alumnus Ryan McCormick punched his PGA TOUR card on Sunday afternoon.
The former Johnnie will compete in select PGA Tour events next season after finishing top-30 on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2023. The season came to a close on Sunday as the Korn Ferry Tour Championship wrapped up in Newburgh, Ind., where the top 30 players earned their spots to compete on the tour.
McCormick came in 27th place on the PGA's developmental tour this year and earns a call-up to the brightest stage in professional golf. The former Johnnie amassed 862 points after tallying four top-10 finishes and placing in the top-3 twice.
During his career at St. John's, McCormick helped lead the program to the 2014 BIG EAST Championship, its first since 1989. The West Long Branch, N.J. was named the 2014 BIG EAST Golfer of the Year. He logged a 71.73 stroke average in his senior campaign which ranks third all-time trailing only Keegan Bradley.
McCormick was named an All-BIG EAST selection three times and logged 19 rounds of par or less during his tenure in Queens from 2010-14.
He becomes the second active St. John's player to qualify for the PGA TOUR joining major champion Bradley.
