Unique Drake Goes for 30 as St. John’s Drops Manhattan, 67-47

Drake tied the school record for most 3-pointers in a single-game
QUEENS, N.Y.– Behind an incredible 30-point performance from Unique Drake, the St. John's women's basketball team cruised past Manhattan on Sunday afternoon, 67-47.
For the second time this season, Drake went for a career-high pouring in 30 points. The redshirt senior tied a school record nailing seven 3-pointers. She becomes just the 11th player in program history to ever reach the 30-point mark.
The reigning BIG EAST Sixth-Woman of the Year joined Kim McMillan (Nov. 25, 2003 vs. Binghamton and Feb. 8, 2004 vs. Providence) and Qadashah Hoppie (Feb. 7, 2020 vs. DePaul) as the only St. John's players to ever make seven triples in a single contest. The Columbia, S.C., native was efficient from beyond-the-arc going 7-for-9 from 3-point range (77.7 percent), which ranks third best all-time in program history.
Drake notched another new personal best, making 11 field goals on 20 attempts.
Jillian Archer finished in double-figures for the fourth time in as many games this season. The graduate student finished with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting and tied for the team-high with seven boards.
Skye Owen chipped in nine points while fellow sophomore guard Jailah Donald finished with a career-high eight at Carnesecca Arena.
Phoenix Gedeon had a solid game on the glass tying Archer for a team-high seven boards, her most this season.
The Red Storm made 11 shots from long-range on Sunday afternoon, its most since Nov. 26, 2022 when it flushed 12 in a win over UTSA in Las Vegas.
Defensively, the Johnnies held the Jaspers to just 18.2 percent (2-11) from 3-point range and 37.7 percent (20-53) from the floor.
St. John's (2-2) forced Manhattan (2-2) into 20 turnovers on the afternoon marking the second time this season the Red Storm have logged 20 or more takeaways. Owen had a game-high three steals.
To start off the contest, Manhattan jumped out to a 5-1 advantage before the Johnnies spurred a dominant 18-2 run for the remainder of the quarter. Drake was the catalyst of the dominant scoring stretch scoring nine in the opening quarter. The Preseason All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention selection flushed a corner triple as time expired in the opening quarter to make it 19-7 after 10 minutes.
In the second stanza, the Red Storm expanded its lead to as many as 18, 27-9, after made 3-pointers from Owen and Ber'Nyah Mayo. The Jaspers responded by engineering a 7-0 spurt of their own before Drake buried a triple to spring the advantage back to 14, 30-16.
St. John's carried a 12-point advantage into the locker room, 32-20.
In the following half, Drake opened the scoring for the home side after cashing on consecutive 3-pointers. Halfway through the third, it was Drake again from long-range hitting her sixth of the contest marking a new career-best.
In the final frame, Donald buried a corner triple. On the ensuing possession, a deflection by Archer led to a steal by Mayo and a pull-up jumper from Donald on the other end. With a minute remaining, Drake etched herself in the record books with the record tying 3-point off a feed from Gedeon to bring the lead to 20 points, 65-45.
The Red Storm remain undefeated against the fellow New York City school as today marked the 13th straight victory over the Jaspers.
Up next for St. John's is a trip to Puerto Rico to play three games in the Discover Puerto Rico Classic. The Johnnies will begin the tournament against VCU on Thanksgiving Day at 5:30 ET.
