St. John’s Gears Up for the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship

St. John’s will have participants in the NCAA Regionals for the first time since 2019
QUEENS, N.Y. – After wrapping up the BIG EAST Championship two weeks ago, the St. John's Cross Country team will head to Bronx, N.Y. for the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship on Friday. The 6K race will begin at 11 a.m. at Van Cortlandt Park.
The NCAA Northeast Regional will be hosted by Columbia University with live results available on LexiconTiming.com.
The Red Storm will race the NCAA Regional Championship for the first time since the 2019 season. Katie Bruno posted a season-best 6K time of 21:29.1 while Claire Cushing recorded a personal-best mark of 22:23.9.
Hannah Huleatt, Jenna D'Onofrio, Gabriella Caronia, Ezgi Yasar, Ana Dobsa and Cristina Stanescu will all race in their first NCAA Regional Championship. Cushing will race in the second of her collegiate career.
Last time out, the Johnnies posted a ninth-place finish at the BIG EAST Championships on Oct. 28, in Milwaukee. The Johnnies beat out Marquette and Seton Hall at the championship meet.
Cushing has put together a phenomenal final season for St. John's, most recently recording a personal best 6K time of 21:57.68 with a 36th-place result at the conference championship. The graduate student hasn't finished below 56th in any meet this season.
Yasar and Caronia finished in the same pack at the BIG EAST Championships, each posting career-best 6K times of 23:00.76 and 23:19.16.
Huleatt finished fifth on the Red Storm two weeks ago with a time of 24:11.42. The senior has recorded two PRs throughout the 2023 campaign.
D'Onofrio has registered the best season of her collegiate career so far, logging personal-best 5K and 6K times at the Metropolitan Championship and the BIG EAST Championship, respectively. In Milwaukee, the West Babylon, N.Y., product notched a personal-best 6K time of 25:39.4.
Dobsa and Stanescu have put together impressive first-year campaigns. Dobsa has raced in three meets for St. John's this season. At the conference championship, she finished sixth on the team with a time of 24:26.32 in her first collegiate 6K race.
Stanescu has raced in all five of the Johnnies meets this season, earning best times in each meet she has participated in. Most recently, Stanescu paced the BIG EAST Championship in 25:40.61.
