Hampton Announces 2024 Baseball Schedule

The Red Storm will open the season in Gainesville against national runner-up Florida
QUEENS, N.Y. (Dec. 14, 2023) – The St. John's baseball team has announced its upcoming schedule for the 2024 season on Thursday.
The Red Storm is coming off a 28-25 season with a pair of All-BIG EAST selections in 2023. Ahead of the team's 2024 season, Head Coach Mike Hampton welcomes in a slew of newcomers, including a dozen freshmen and six transfers. The Johnnies have also benefitted from the addition of new assistant coach and program's lone BIG EAST Player of the Year John Valente, who returned to the team in September following five seasons inside the Detriot Tigers' organization.
The Johnnies will take on six participants from the 2023 NCAA Tournament, including four Regional teams, one Super Regional squad and the national runner-up, University of Florida.
The Red Storm will open the 2024 campaign with its toughest test of the season, heading down to Gainesville, Fla., on Feb. 16-18, for a three-game showdown with the Gators. St. John's and Florida have met one time previously with the Gators prevailing in the 1997 NCAA Regionals, 4-3.
St. John's will then head to the Lonestar State for its spring break trip, starting the seven-game slate in Texas with a trio against the University of Houston on Feb. 23-25.
Following their series with the Cougars, the Johnnies will square off with 2023 NCAA Super Regional competitor Texas Longhorns in Austin on Feb. 27. The Johnnies have split its four meetings with the Longhorns evenly, squaring off in the 2008 Regionals twice. The Red Storm secured a 2-1 victory in the opening game behind a game-winning RBI fielder's choice in the ninth and a one-run allowance across 7.2 innings by Scott Barnes.
Rounding out the spring break getaway will be a three-game series against Sam Houston State on March 1-3. Both teams will face off for the first time since March 4, 2004, seeing the Johnnies earn a 9-6 victory on the road.
The Red Storm will return to the Big Apple to make its season debut at Jack Kaiser Stadium against Iona on Tuesday, March 5, starting a stretch of 16 home contests over the next 17 games. After a three-game series with Hofstra (March 8-10) and a midweek match against LIU (March 12), St. John's will welcome 2023 MAAC Champion Rider to Queens for a three-game set (March 15-17).
Following a Wednesday date with Wagner (March 20), the Johnnies will square off with Fordham in a home-and-home weekend series (March 22-24). Kaiser Stadium will play host to the first and third games while Fordham will welcome the Red Storm to the Bronx for game two.
St. John's will link up with Winthrop for the first time since 2008 when the two squads meet during Easter Weekend. The Johnnies swept a five-game road slate that season, earning three wins against the Eagles behind a complete-game shutout from Matt Tosoni in game two and a solid six-inning performance from current assistant coach George Brown in game three. The Red Storm and Eagles will play one game on March 28, followed by a doubleheader on March 30.
After its final tuneup with Fairfield (April 2), the Red Storm will open BIG EAST play on the road against Villanova. The Johnnies hold a 60-33 all-time record over the Wildcats.
St. John's will make its way up to Storrs the following weekend for a three-game series with NCAA Regional qualifier and BIG EAST Regular Season Champion UConn (April 12-14).
The Johnnies will square off with Ivy League foe Columbia for the 35th all-time meeting between both programs. The Red Storm have won three straight games against the Lions, including a 7-5 victory last season inside Robinson Field at Satow Stadium, marking the first road win against Columbia since 2009.
Three days later, St. John's will welcome Butler to Jack Kaiser Stadium (April 19-21). The Johnnies dominated the Bulldogs in their series last season, scoring 45 runs in three games while smashing a combined 10 home runs in Indianapolis.
The Red Storm and Rutgers will square off in New Brunswick, N.J., on April 23, opposing former St. John's players-turned-coaches in current Scarlet Knight assistant coaches Danny Bethea and Brendan Monaghan. Bethea played for the Red Storm under Monaghan during the Johnnies' 2012 BIG EAST Championship run before taking on multiple coaching roles from 2019-23.
The Johnnies will head to Cincinnati to take on the reigning BIG EAST Champions Xavier (April 26-28).
St. John's will play five straight games in Queens, starting with a midweek matchup against Iona (May 1). Before its date with FDU (May 7), St. John's and Creighton will link up for a three-game series at Kaiser Stadium (May 3-5).
After a week off, the Johnnies will head across state lines to take on Seton Hall in South Orange, N.J., (May 10-12), before finishing the season at Kaiser Stadium against Georgetown (May 16-18).
The Red Storm will look to make it back to Prasco Park for the BIG EAST Tournament, slated to begin on Wednesday, May 22.
