St. John’s to Close Non-Conference Slate at Yale on Thursday Afternoon

Red Storm are coming off an emphatic win over Villanova at Madison Square Garden to open BIG EAST play
QUEENS, N.Y. – Following a hard-fought win at Madison Square Garden over Villanova, 51-46, the St. John's women's basketball team will close out its non-conference schedule at Yale on Thursday afternoon.
The Red Storm and Bulldogs will tip-off at noon from the John J. Lee Amphitheater in New Haven, Conn. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
The Johnnies will play their fourth true road game and their final 12 out-of-league contests before transitioning into BIG EAST play. The Red Storm have won of four out of its last five contests and currently hold a 6-6 record.
On Saturday, St. John's played its first contest inside the "World's Most Famous Arena" in four years and gutted out a crucial win to open conference competition. The win over Villanova snapped a nine-game losing streak against the Wildcats.
The Red Storm defense gave Villanova fits holding the visitors to 30.4 percent (17-56) shooting from the floor and held the nation's third leading scorer Lucy Olsen to nine points on 2-of-15 shooting.
Jailah Donald hit a crucial 3-pointer as the shot clock dwindled with 1:21 left to play to put the Red Storm up four and ultimately seal the victory. The sophomore finished with 12 points and a career-high six boards.
Jillian Archer had a monster game at The Garden paving the way to her fourth double-double of the campaign. The graduate student finished with season-highs in points (15), rebounds (14) and blocks (3). The forward was honored for her stellar outing garnering a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll and was named to the Metropolitan Basketball Writers' Association Player of the Week Honorable Mention.
Tara Daye was excellent defensively in the win over the Wildcats and pulled down a season-high 10 rebounds. The sophomore guard chipped in five points including a pivotal second chance lay-in during the fourth quarter.
Unique Drake matched Villanova's Bella Runyan's 16 points to lead all scorers for the 10th time in 12 opportunities. The redshirt senior continues to lead the squad offensively pouring in 19.2 points per game. The Columbia, S.C., native has nailed three or more triples in seven games and 37 on the year, which ranks ninth in NCAA Division I.
In its six victories, the Johnnies have yet to allow their opponents to score more than 49 points and are holding them to an average of 45.0 points per game.
Yale and St. John's will meet for the sixth-time in the last 10 years on Thursday, the Red Storm lead the all-time series, 5-0. All five contests have occurred during the Joe Tartamella Era. The last meeting took place in Queens as Drake exploded for her previous long-standing career-high of 24 points in an 88-68 win over the Bulldogs on Nov. 21, 2021. Tartamella holds a 7-1 all-time record against the Ivy League.
Yale returns to the hardwood after an 11-day break for finals and holds a 2-9 record on the year. The Bulldogs have fallen by less than five in seven of their nine losses. Yale is led by senior guard Jenna Clark, who posts a team-high 15.5 points and 6.7 assists per game. The Pittsburgh, Pa., native's assist mark ranks first in the Ivy League and top-10 nationally.
After a nine-day break for the holiday, the Red Storm will return to BIG EAST play when it takes on No. 21 Creighton on Dec. 30 at 5 p.m. ET.
