St. John’s to Resume BIG EAST Play at No. 21/21 Creighton on Saturday

Red Storm have won five of its last six contests
QUEENS, N.Y.– The St. John's women's basketball team will resume BIG EAST play on Saturday when it visits nationally-ranked No. 21/21 Creighton.
The Red Storm and Bluejays will tip-off from D.J. Sokol Arena in Omaha at 5 p.m. ET , Rob Simms and Jon Schriner will be on the call on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports.
The Johnnies have won five of their last six contests and will resume their league slate after winning the BIG EAST opener against Villanova at Madison Square Garden.
In its final non-conference tilt on Dec. 21, St. John's rallied after trailing at the end of the first quarter and grabbed a decisive 75-56 win at Yale.
Unique Drake went off for 30 points in the win over the Bulldogs, marking her second 30-point performance of the season. The redshirt senior made a career-high eight free throws going 8-for-9 (88.9 percent) from the charity stripe. The guard becomes just the sixth-player in St. John's history to record two 30-point outings in a single-season.
On Dec. 22, Drake became the first Johnnie in nearly three years to capture BIG EAST Player of the Week honors.
The Red Storm made a season-high 21 free throws in the win over Yale and shot 87.5 percent (21-24) from the charity stripe. On the year, St. John's is shooting 77.3 percent from the free-throw line, which ranks top-40 nationally and top-3 in the BIG EAST.
The Johnnies also logged a season-best 31 points off of turnovers in their non-conference finale capitalizing on 20 takeaways. Seven of St. John's 13 opponents have turned the ball over 20-plus times.
Creighton is the first nationally-ranked opponent the Red Storm will face this season. Last year, the Red Storm won a pair of games against top-15 opponents, including a 66-62 win at home over then-No. 13/14 Creighton on Dec. 4, 2022.
The Red Storm lead the all-time series, 13-12, over the Bluejays and the two sides split the pair of meeting last season. The Johnnies are seeking their first win in Omaha since Feb. 14, 2020.
Creighton enters the BIG EAST battle with a 9-2 mark on the year and dropped its first league tilt against Marquette. The Bluejays have played a grueling schedule thus far with eight of their 11 opponents ranked in the NET Top-100, Creighton holds a 6-2 record in those games.
The Bluejays have been superb in distributing and taking care of the basketball ranking top-five in the country in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.73). Emma Ronsiek is Creighton's leading scorer recording 19.5 points on an efficient 51.6 percent shooting from the field, 43.9 percent from 3-point range and 88.4 percent from the free throw line.
The Red Storm will take on its first of two consecutive nationally-ranked squads as No. 18/18 Marquette is set to visit Carnesecca Arena on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tip.
