St. John’s Takes on No. 4/6 UConn on Tuesday Night

QUEENS, N.Y.— The St. John's women's basketball team will head to No. 6/6 UConn for a Tuesday night contest inside the XL Center.
Allen Bestwick and Meghan Culmo will have the call from Hartford. The game will broadcast live on SNY.
St. John's (19-7, 10-7 BIG EAST) enters the contest after dropping a pair of contests last week to No. 14/15 Villanova and Marquette.
Jayla Everett continues to lead the Red Storm in scoring averaging 16.0 points per game, which ranks ninth in the conference. The talented shooting guards is tied for a league-best 2.5 made 3-pointers per outing.
As a team, the Red Storm have shot over 80 percent from the charity stripe for four consecutive games. During conference play, the Johnnies have been efficient from the line shooting 78.0 percent, which ranks third in the BIG EAST.
On the defensive end, the Johnnies play a disciplined brand of defense ranking third in the nation in fewest fouls per game with just 12.2. Not a single St. John's player has fouled out of a game through 26 contests.
No. 6/6 UConn returns home after a closely contested 60-51 win at No. 14/15 Villanova on Saturday afternoon. Lou Lopez Senechal led the squad with a 22-point performance, while Aaliyah Edwards added 13 points and 14 rebounds at Finneran Pavilion.
The Huskies have been stellar in offensive efficiency, ranking top-5 in the NCAA in field goal percentage, assists per game and 3-point field goal percentage.
The first time these two teams met occurred on Jan. 11 at UBS Arena, the first-ever women's college basketball game to be played in the home of the NHL's New York Islanders. The Huskies prevailed, 82-52, behind 20 points from Lopez Senechal and a double-double from Dorka Juhasz (18 points and 10 rebounds). Kadaja Bailey led the charge for the Red Storm finishing with a team-high 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor.
Tuesday marks the 65th all-time meeting between the two programs, where UConn leads, 47-17. The Huskies' have won 10-straight games against the Red Storm. The last St. John's victory came on Feb. 18, 2012, when current Assistant Coach Shenneika Smith drained a game-winning three-pointer to shock then-no. 2 UConn, 57-56, snapping the Huskies 99-game home winning streak.
The Red Storm will return home for its final regular season game at Carnesecca Arena on Friday night. St. John's will take on Georgetown on Senior Night at 7 p.m. on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports.
