Men’s Tennis Wins Second Match of the Weekend

The Red Storm notched a 6-1 win at Drexel
QUEENS, N.Y. (March 11, 2023) – The St. John's men's tennis team won its second match of the weekend toppling Drexel, 6-1 at the Vidas Courts on Saturday afternoon.
Three Johnnies earned a pair of the wins on the day for St. John's (11-4).
The Red Storm won the first point of the match, winning both doubles matches to clinch the victory. The Johnnies top pairing of Diogo Marques and Axel Vila Antuna improved to 3-1 on the season with a 6-1 victory against Alex Sousa and Egor Kirakosov. Sergio Molina and Giuseppe De Camelis teamed up to clinch the point with a 6-2 win over Pierre Humayou and Juan Sanchez.
The Johnnies didn't let up winning five of six singles matches to earn its 11th victory of the season. Molina improved to a team-best 10 wins with a victory in straight sets against Gustav Wogen, 6-2, 6-1. Carl Gustafsson and Ryota Kaneda each tallied their eighth wins of the season with straight set victories. Gustafsson defeated Sousa, 7-5, 6-4, and Kaneda knocked off Matvey Radionov, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2. In the Red Storm's top slot, Marques notched his fourth win of the season with a pair of 6-4 victories against Daniel Dudockin. De Camelis was also victorious with a 7-5, 6-3 victory against Kirakosov.
St. John's returns to action with its second consecutive road match next Friday against Delaware. The Red Storm will take on the Blue Hens at 12 p.m. in Newark, Del.
