St. John’s to Close 2022-23 Regular Season at No. 6/6 Marquette

The Johnnies will look to secure their third-straight road win on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET on FOX
QUEENS, N.Y. – Looking to end the regular season on a high note, the St. John's men's basketball team travels to Milwaukee to square off with No. 6/6 Marquette on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET on FOX. Jason Benetti and Stephen Bardo are on the call for the national telecast live from Fiserv Forum.
An audio broadcast of the game on the LEARFIELD Red Storm Sports Network with John Minko and Tarik Turner will also be available on a variety of platforms including the Varsity Network App, TuneIn Radio, RedStormSports.com and the St. John's Red Storm mobile app. St. John's radio broadcast can also be heard on SiriusXM channel 387 and channel 977 on the SiriusXM app.
St. John's (17-13, 7-12 BIG EAST) will try for its third-straight road victory on Saturday after previously taking down DePaul in double-overtime on Feb. 14 followed by a victory at Georgetown on Feb. 22. In the team's last two road victories, five Johnnies averaged double figures with Joel Soriano leading the way with 18.5 points, shooting 68.4 percent (13-19 FG) from the field to go with 12.0 rebounds per contest. AJ Storr also averaged 14.5 points and 4.0 rebounds.
On Saturday, the Johnnies will look to bounce back from a hard-fought 95-86 setback to No. 18/23 UConn at Madison Square Garden. Soriano registered his NCAA-leading 22nd double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Storr finished with a game-high 20 points against the Huskies. Posh Alexander also added 18 points, shooting 7-for-12 from the floor.
The Red Storm will square off with the Golden Eagles for the 42nd time in program history on Saturday. Despite a pair of 20-point performances from Soriano (22) and Dylan Addae-Wusu (21), Marquette earned a 96-85 victory in the teams' first meeting this season on Jan. 3 in Queens. Olivier-Maxence Proser and Kam Jones sank four 3-pointers apiece, finishing with 29 and 16 points, respectively.
St. John's last win at Fiserv Forum came on Jan. 31, 2021, as Posh Alexander registered 15 points, six steals and three assists in a 75-73 victory. The Johnnies will also try and knock off a ranked Golden Eagles team on the road for the first time since their 70-69 triumph on Jan. 1, 2019. Against the No. 10/9 team in the nation, former standout Shamorie Ponds rattled off 28 points, including the go-ahead bucket with under 20 seconds to play.
Marquette (24-6, 16-3 BIG EAST) is riding a five-game winning streak entering Saturday's matchup. The Golden Eagles clinched the BIG EAST Regular Season title on Tuesday with a 72-56 victory at Butler. Tyler Kolek recorded 21 points and 10 assists in the victory. The junior guard ranks second in the nation averaging 7.9 assists per game and boasts a 3.28 assist-to-turnover ratio.
After Saturday's matchup at Marquette, the Red Storm will meet Butler in the No. 8/9 game of the 2023 BIG EAST Tournament on Wednesday at MSG. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. at "The World's Most Famous Arena." The winner will face the top-seeded Golden Eagles on Thursday at 12 p.m.
