Molina and De Camelis earn a pair of wins on the day
OXFORD, Miss. (March 2, 2023) – The St. John's men's tennis team fell to Ole Miss, 5-2, on Thursday afternoon in Galtney Tennis Center.
The Rebels claimed the first point of the match winning two of the three doubles matches. The tandem of Giuseppe De Camelis and Sergio Molina won at No. 2 doubles for the Red Storm with a 6-4 victory against J. Hallquist Lithen and Simon Junk. Diogo Marques and Axel Vila Antuna teamed up for the second time this season. The duo fell to Nikola Slavic and Lukas Engelhart, 6-4.
Molina and De Camelis earned their second wins of the day in singles play. Molina improved to 9-1 on the season with a pair of 6-4 wins against Isac Stromberg in straight sets. Tallying his ninth win of the season, the New Mexico transfer ties freshman Nishant Dabas with nine wins on the season. Dabas fell in straight sets to Simon Junk. Marques in his first singles match in three weeks, fell in straight sets to No. 68 Nikola Slavic, 1-6, 2-6. De Camelis defeated Walker Stearns in the sixth slot, 7-6, 1-6, 10-5.
St. John's will take an eight-day break from matches before hosting Siena next Friday at USTA Tennis Center. The following day the Red Storm will travel to Philadelphia, Pa. to take on Drexel.
