St. John’s Gears Up for Road Showdown with Wagner

The Johnnies have won six straight games entering Wednesday
QUEENS, N.Y. – Riding a six-game winning streak, the St. John's baseball team will head to Staten Island to take on Wagner at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park on Wednesday with first pitch slated for 3 p.m.

St. John's (13-5) is coming off a weekend sweep of Quinnipiac, capping off a 4-0 week for the Red Storm after exploding offensively with 58 runs, 71 hits and batting .428 as a team. Collectively, the Johnnies reached base in half of their plate appearances during the four-game stretch. The 58 tallies were the most in a four-game span since tallying 59 against NYIT and Georgetown from May 10-15, 2011.
The Johnnies saw a jump in the national statistical leaderboards, moving into sixth with a .332 batting average to go with 50 doubles, sitting 10th in Division I.
Aaron Mann earned BIG EAST Player of the Week after rolling through the Sharks and Bobcats last week. The St. John's first baseman slashed .692/.706/1.231 with a 9-for-13 showing and registering 11 RBIs and seven runs scored. Through 18 games this season, the Little Rock, Ark., native is nationally ranked with his .462 batting average, good for 10th.
Fellow teammates Jackson Tucker and Sonny Fauci provided solid outings for the Red Storm last week, earning spots on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Tucker unloaded a .688/.722/.813 slash line and to go with eight runs and four stolen bases. The Red Storm outfielder reached base in 10 straight plate appearances after going 4-for-4 in back-to-back games against Quinnipiac and drawing a pair of walks on Saturday. Fauci battled through six innings of work against the Bobcats, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out a career-high eight batters.
St. John's and Wagner will square off for the 72nd time in program history with the Johnnies boasting a 60-11 record with a 29-9 record in Staten Island. The Red Storm has won six of its last seven meetings with the Seahawks. The two programs split their two meetings last season with St. John's earning a 6-4 win at the Jack before falling in Staten Island, 7-4, in a seven-inning contest.
Wagner (10-8) is coming off a series win over Fairleigh Dickinson, taking two of three from the Knights.
Former Johnnie Chris Conniff has been a steady presence for Wagner, pacing the way with a .348 batting average. The Edmond, Okla., native has chipped in 15 runs scored and 13 RBIs in his first season in Staten Island.
Reliever Andrew Rucci has been reliable in his limited time out of the bullpen. The lefty specialist has made five appearances this season, earning three wins and striking out five through three innings of work.
