St. John’s Readies for Midweek Contest at Stony Brook

The Red Storm will finish the weekend with a home series against DePaul
BRONX, N.Y. (March 21, 2023) – The St. John's softball team will travel to Stony Brook for a Wesdnesday afternoon date with the Seawolves at University Field at 2 p.m.
Freshman Loreley Francia was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll following her first collegiate win against Fordham on Saturday. The Spring, Tex. native pitched a complete-game shutout with 10 strikeouts against the Rams in the Red Storm's lone game of the week.
Sophomore London Jarrard is establishing herself as a top player not only in the BIG EAST but nationally, as well. Jarrard ranks in the top 50 of four categories nationally, and in the top 3 of the conference in seven statistical categories. Her .552 OBP tops the league and is 16th in the country.
Last weekend, the Red Storm were scheduled to travel to Butler, but cold temperatures forced the cancelation of the trip. The Johnnies audibled and traveled to the Bronx for a single game against Fordham. St. John's knocked off the 2022 NCAA Tournament team 9-0 in five innings. Jarrard and Amy Mallah belted home runs, and the pair teamed up with Sydney Totarsky to combine for all nine RBIs.
Bob Guerriero is in his fifth year as head coach of the St. John's Softball team and is assisted by Grace Kramer and Marissa Rizzi. Kramer, a 2017 St. John's graduate, is in her fourth season as an assistant coach while Rizzi, a 2020 graduate, is in her second season as a coach as a part of the Red Storm program.
Stony Brook swept Sacred Heart in a doubleheader on Thursday before dropping three against Hofstra in its second CAA Series of the season.
Corinne Badger has supplied the power for the Seawolves leading the team with 14 RBIs and six home runs. Kyra McFarland has been consistent early on, leading the squad hitting .327, and drawing nine walks. She also tops Stony Brook with seven stolen bases. In the circle, Mia Haynes has frequented the circle for the Seawolves 15 times of the 21 games this season. Haynes touts a 6-5 record with seven complete games and two shutouts. Her 4.81 ERA is the best on the staff.
Megan T. Bryant is in her 22nd season with Stony Brook. She is 609-504-5 with the Seawolves, reaching the NCAA Tournament twice in her tenure.
The Red Storm lead the all-time series with the Seawolves, 8-6. In 2022 the two teams split 1-1, with Stony Brook earning the last win, 8-0 in six innings.
The Johnnies will round out the weekend with its second BIG EAST series of the season against DePaul. The Red Storm will host the Blue Demons in a three-game, three-day series starting on Friday at 1 p.m. at Red Storm Field.
