St. John’s to Square Off with UAlbany

The Johnnies hold a 20-3 record against the Great Danes entering Friday
QUEENS, N.Y. – Looking to make it three straight wins, the St. John's baseball team will take on UAlbany in its first home weekend series of the season. Friday's game has been adjusted due to forecasted inclement weather beginning on Friday at 2 p.m. The Red Storm will wrap up the three-game slate with a 1 p.m. first pitch on both Saturday and Sunday.
All three contests will have live stats available as well as an audio-only broadcast on RedStormSports.com.
After taking two of three at Marshall to earn its second series win in as many weekends, St. John's (7-4) unloaded 16 hits in an 11-7 win in its home opener against Hofstra. Five players tallied multi-hit performances on Wednesday as Blake Mayberry and Marty Higgins surged with three apiece. Both players factored in the team's scoring as Higgins drove in four runs while Mayberry crossed home plate three times. Right-hander Nick Cirelli picked up his second save of the season in the victory.
Over the last five games, Higgins paces the team hitting .478 with a team-best 11 hits, nine RBIs and six runs scored. Aaron Mann is also hitting an even .400 over that stretch, crossing home plate five times and smacking eight singles. As a team, the Johnnies are batting .299 while averaging over seven runs per contest.
Through 11 contests, the Johnnies pace the BIG EAST with 29 doubles, good for 39th in the nation. Eleven of the 15 Johnnies to see offensive action have tallied at least one double while seven have smacked three or more. St. John's is also tied for the conference lead with UConn at 9.7 strikeouts per nine innings while its 1.41 WHIP is good for second. Cirelli has also found himself in the national conversation with his conference-leading 0.62 WHIP, sitting 15th in Division I.
Furthermore, the trio of Mann (.429), Paul Orbon (.412) and Higgins (.400) are all hitting .400 or better and sit in the top three spots among BIG EAST competitors.

This comes after dropping its first five contests of the season and tying with Fairleigh Dickinson, 12-12, in its final game of the series. Against CCSU, the Great Danes tallied 16 runs on just eight hits, capitalizing on three errors and multiple bases-loaded opportunities.
In seven games, UAlbany is averaging 8.4 runs per game, good for 48th in the nation. On the bump, UAlbany has struggled with a 7.74 ERA while surrendering a .327 batting average against.
