St. John’s Completes Season Sweep of Fordham with 4-1 Win

London Jarrard reached base in all four plate appearances
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's softball team won its second game of the season against Fordham in 4-1 fashion on Wednesday afternoon at Red Storm Field.
The Red Storm (15-20, 4-8 BIG EAST) started the week on a high note by winning their first of four home contests this week. With the loss, the Rams fell to 13-20 on the year. Earlier in the season, the Johnnies were victorious over the Rams, 9-0 in five innings in the Bronx.
Anese Thompson went 1-for-3 to extend her on-base streak to 13 games. The Ventura, Calif. native drove in two runs for her 15th RBI of the season.
Jess Bianco and London Jarrard each notched their 21st stolen bases on the year. The duo is tied for the team lead, and third in the BIG EAST.
Jarrard reached in all four of her plate appearances. The sophomore was 1-for-1 and was walked three times.
Loreley Francia got the nod for the Johnnies and retired the first six batters she faced. The freshman earned her third win of the season while striking out six.
The Red Storm broke through first with a pair of runs in the third inning. Both Jarrard and Sydney Totarsky reached base to lead off the inning for the Johnnies. With one out and Jarrard and Totarsky in scoring position, Thompson laced a single up the middle to score the duo. The Rams twisted a double play on the next Red Storm batter to get out of the frame.
Fordham responded in the top of the fourth inning with a solo homer by Sydney Wells to straightaway center to cut the deficit in half. Francia neutralized the Rams scoring threat by stranding a pair of Rams to end the inning.
Cassidy Stouffer led off the bottom of the fourth with a double. With Stouffer at third and one out, Natalie Casto drove in her third Johnnie of the season with an RBI-double to give the Johnnies a 3-1 lead.
The Johnnies tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, to extend their lead to 4-1. With two outs, Bianco singled and then stole her second bag of the game. Jarrard roped a single to right to plate Bianco for the fourth Red Storm run of the contest.
Francia notched her fourth complete game of the year with her third 1-2-3 inning of the day in the seventh to close out the 4-1 Red Storm victory.
St. John's will host a crucial three-game series against Villanova opening on Friday at 1 p.m. Throughout the weekend there will be plethora of giveaways and promotions at Red Storm Field.
