2023 NCAA Men’s Foil Individual Champion adds another accolade
QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's men's fencer Jan Jurkiewicz has added yet another impressive achievement to his resume, capturing the bronze medal in the men's foil event at the World University Games in Chengdu, China.
The 2023 NCAA Champion was strong in pool play, winning five of his six matches and outscoring his opponents in touches, 27-16. After a first-round bye, Jurkiewicz defeated both Bryce Louie from Penn in the second round, 15-7, and Alexandre Sido of France in the third round, 15-7, to reach the quarterfinal.
Facing off against Stef De Greef of Belgium, the 2023 First Team All-American continued his dominance with a 15-8 victory. Jurkiewicz's run came to an end in the semifinal as he fell to Pierre Loisel of France 15-10. Finishing tied for third in the competition, Jurkiewicz secured the bronze medal and found his place on the podium.
