St. John’s Prepares for the Paul Short Run

The Red Storm will race in Lehigh’s home meet for the first time since 2018
QUEENS, N.Y. – After a two-week break, the St. John's cross country team will continue its 2024 campaign on Saturday when it travels to Bethlehem, Pa., for Lehigh's Paul Short Run. The Red Storm will race in the "Brown" 6K, which will begin at 2:30 p.m.
The Johnnies will take part in Lehigh's home meet for the first time since 2018, when the squad finished 23rd out of 44 teams after totaling 605 points. Antonia Howard impressed at the race, placing 10th behind a 21:51 6K finish.
The Red Storm will face off against 37 other schools in its second race of the season.
Last time out, the Johnnies finished in fifth at Iona's Br. John "Paddy" Doyle Meet of Champions on Sept. 13. Leyre Campo de Quevedo became the first Johnnie to lead the Red Storm in a collegiate debut since teammate Ezgi Yasar in 2022. The Spain native finished with a 19:17.79 mark for 23rd in the 5K.
Yasar secured 40th at the meet with a time of 20:30.62, while Cristina Stanescu and Gabriella Caronia finished in the same heat for 54th and 56th place, respectively.
Brenin Mahon and Eileen Granados notched solid Red Storm debuts at Van Cortlandt Park, as the pair of sophomores rounded out the team's outing with 58th and 60th place efforts. Mahon secured a 24:14.20 mark while Granados paced the course in 24:32.80.
Following this weekend's meet, St. John's will look to defend its Metropolitan Championship title at Branch Brook Park in Newark, N.J. on Oct. 12.
